The concept for 2017 Color Trends revolves around the way light moves through a house over the course of a day, and how that impacts wall color.

“Light memories” capture a place and time, with color being an important emotional component.  How do these light memories impact a room, and how can we bring this sensibility into a home – we sought to explore this for 2017.

Benjamin Moore's Color of the Year, Shadow 2117-30, is allusive and enigmatic — a master of ambiance.

“It ebbs and flows with its surroundings, and light brings it to life. Rich, royal amethyst can fade into the soft lilac-grey of distant mountains or morph into lustrous coal.

Indulge your mysterious side. Let Shadow set the mood.”
—Ellen O’Neill, Creative Director

Shadow 2117-30 is an amazing color in that it can have a violet cast in some light, act as almost a deep neutral in other lighting, all while capturing a sense of mystery, beauty, art and allure.

"Emotional connections with this color evoke nostalgic memories of light on space and color."

To accompany our Color of the Year, we curated a palette of 23 colors that continues this sense of richness, warmth and depth that dominated our findings over the course of the year.

For 2017 our palette ranges from pales to deeps and a selection of mid tones that can be used alone or in combination to complement many architectural and design styles.
